The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a PEL 1 Assistant Director, Design Integrity within the Design Integrity & Special Collections Unit section.

DPS are responsible for a wide range of services and facilities working closely with the Department of the Senate, the Department of the House of Representatives and the Parliamentary Budget Office to support the operations of the Parliament and its Committees. 

The Design Integrity and Special Collections (DISC) Unit coordinates consultation on matters that have the potential to affect the design intent of Australian Parliament House (APH), to help ensure changes maintain and enhance the building and its precincts. The DISC Unit also coordinates and catalogues APH records and resources that are integral to the design and construction of APH and relevant AUSPIC photographs.

We work with DPS colleagues to ensure that the original design intent of APH is well understood at every stage of design and construction of new building works and maintenance or the introduction of technological changes which may have an impact on APH.

As Assistant Director, Design Integrity, you will work in a small team that coordinates consultation in relation to the design integrity of APH. You will lead and facilitate the design integrity component of asset disposal processes and other transactional design integrity activities, manage design integrity registers and databases, provide high-level secretariat services and lead a range of procurement, contract and records management functions for the Unit.

You will draw on industry knowledge and expertise, and your ability to synthesise technical and legislative information to provide advice to senior management to a high standard. Related industries could include building and construction, architecture, design and information management. You will have a deep understanding and appreciation of matters related to design integrity signifcance and of the political enviroment.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience managing staff and contract consultants
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, building sustained collaborative relationship with key stakeholders
  • An understanding of matters related to design integrity significance
  • Strong experience in asset, procurement and contract management
  • Experience providing high level secretariat services
