My name is Gajan Punnia-Moorthy and I'm an aspirant young architect with a big passion for Revit and Building Information Modelling (BIM). I was told by people in numerous interviews that I should consider doing freelancing as I don't have sufficient enough experience working in my field. The hurdle I'm having at the moment is trying to land into full time employment, hence I wanted to do freelancing/side jobs as it was a proactive way to build up my experience in this field rather than wait for the opportunity to come to me.

I've been doing work experience/internships at numerous places from 2008 to 2013 which were Boffa & Robertson Group, Young + Metcalf Architects, Dale Jones Evans Architecture, Destech Builders as a Site Observer and Turner. I then went on from 2014 and worked at contract jobs and freelance jobs to build up my career as a graduate architect with strong Revit experience.

My degree in Bachelor of Architectural Computing has given me the foundation to build up my skills with using different CAD programs such as Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper and Sketchup. My degrees in Bachelor of Design in Architecture and Masters of Architecture had encouraged me to build up my skills and knowledge in design, documentation and critical thinking in the architecture field. I also had some great opportunities to contribute in electives and student studio projects which were the SONA Superstudio at Canberra University in 2013, the AA Visiting School at Melbourne University in 2016 and the UCL Bartlett University Summer Studio at London, also in 2016. These electives and student studio projects had help me build up my skills and experience in architectural design and creative thinking which would be potentially be useful for my career. They also allowed me to build up my confidence with networking with other peers and making connections with other peers.

I chose to go into the field of architecture as it has always been my big passion and determination to create good buildings and infrastructure that benefit Australian society. I was also interested in the problem solving aspect of this field for instance we deal with the issues of population growth and how this can be potentially solved would be planning for the future by providing sufficient services like green spaces, schools, hospitals and transport.

I'm also very interested in technology and how it can be used to think about design ideas through computation design and delivering projects from cradle to grave efficiently hence I wanted to build up my expertise in BIM.

My goal is to become a registered architect that has expertise in the field of Building Information Modelling and a specialist with Revit and other CAD tools. This is so I can make use of my skills that I've gained throughout the three degrees that I've obtained from my time at university. I want to be given a chance build up my skills and experience in documentation, design, construction detailing, 3D modelling etc. so I'm hoping you understand where I come from. I'm hoping throughout my career to be more resilient in the industry hence I would like have diverse experience in different sectors such as transport, health and education as well as having skills and expertise with different design technology tools such as BIM.

Specialties: Drafting, CAD, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Architecture, Architectural Design
